Mat or Not?

beauty_nailsmattornot 031

I have a wedding next week and I’m trying to decide which shade of nail polish I should wear. Anna gave me once one that she didn’t like from one of those cosmetic surprise boxes, “Glossy Box”. She is more tan than me, and it was not working for her. Thanks to that I’m now the lucky owner of Essie’s Penny Talk, from the collection Mirror Metallics.

Now my question is: Should I use the Mat Top Coat or not? What do you think?

Shirt: Whistles | Lederrock: Zara | Loafers: Zara | Parka: Zara | Tasche: (rate mal) Zara…

A

Helena and I are both big Fans of the British online shop Asos. Helena buys herself mostly dresses for every occasion, and for me it became kind of a sport to find bargain designer pieces. The trick it’s very easy, you don’t have to be too picky about the size. Since the biggest reductions are usually on last left items, I don’t get angry anymore if they just have this great T-shirt in L, I order it anyway. Sending it back doesn’t cost me anything and the probability that it fits is quite big.

That was the case with this Shirt – I love everything that has stripes, and there was the perfect striped shirt, soft and warm, sewed in two layers without being to thick or rigid, only in size 42… I ordered it and it fits perfectly! For more or less half of the original price. The leather skirt was also sort of a bargain, but without it feeling like a sport – I just had to fly to Spain and buy it there for a 30% less.
It was probably the last time this year that I would be wearing a skirt without tights, and I really enjoyed it!

Veggie Purée

veggiepurèe 001 (21)_2

I’m not feeling very well these days I think I cought a cold (I’ve got my boyfriend to thank for that ;)), so all I can think about when I go into the kitchen is, I need something warm!

I’ve learned this recipe from my mum, she did it a lot when I was little and I just can say, I LOVE IT. So easy to make and so delicious, you would not believe there are just vegetables inside.

Ingredients for 4 portions

  • 2 medium onions
  • 400 gr potatoes
  • 2 big tomatoes
  • 5 carrots
  • olive oil and salt

Preparation

Peel the potatoes and the carrots and dice into similar pieces. Dice also the tomatoes and the onions into similar pieces a little bit bigger than the ones from potatoes and carrot, you don’t need to peel the tomatoes.

Once done with the peeling and dicing, heat some oil in a pot, about 3/4 Ts should be enough, throw in the tomatoes and the onion and fry lightly about 2 minutes, remember we want to cook the vegetables not fry them, it’s just for the taste 😉 Then add the potatoes and the carrots and mix them with the rest so they get also a little bit oil around. Add salt.

Now you just need to add some water, just to cover the veggies, let it boil, turn the heat down to medium temperature and cover.

In less than 20 minutes take a look and check if the potatoes are done. If done, you’ll just need to puree the vegetables with a hand blender and that would be it.

Hope you enjoy it as much as I do! I realized today I should do it more often!

DIY Braid Necklace

image3xxl_2

Looking around in Asos for a new statement necklace I bumped into this Just Access Braid Necklace and I thought I could make something similar for a lot less money. Inspired by it I went to my favorite craft shops, picked up some stuff and VOILÀ!

braidnecklace 009

You’ll need:

  • 4 m jersey yarn (better if it’s not the elastic one)

  • 0’6 m silver chain, I used an aluminum one 6,5 mm x 4 mm

  • 1 Silver clasp

  • 1 silver extension chain

  • 2 little rings

Jerseynecklace (6)

Start by cutting the jersey yard in 2 two-meter pieces, fold them till you have 4 one-meter pieces and tie them together in a knot. Look at picture 4, the end at the knot should look like that. Because the strands are so long, tying them into bundles using rubber bands makes them easier to manage. Now it’s time you take time looking at pictures 1,2 and 3 to see how the box braid it’s made 😀 (Click images to enlarge)

Jerseynecklace (23)Jerseynecklace (24)

Jerseynecklace (25)Jerseynecklace (27)

Repeat the box braid until desired length, mine it’s 27cm or 30 box braids. Once you’ve finished, both ends should look the same, so you would have to sew 2 bows and then cover them with sewing yarn like you see in picture 4. Make 2 pieces of 30cm from the silver chain, cross the bow in one of the ends and put the 2 ends together. Do the same with the other end. With the chains in place you just have to put the clasp in one end of the chain and in the other the extension chain with help from the little rings, and you are done 😉

Not that difficult, is it?

So Last Season

Anna_ (6)

Jeans: Levis | Oberteil: COS | Mantel: Zara | Tasche: Zara | Turnschuhe: Vans | Hut: Faustmann

—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————–

For the first Outfit I’ve chosen only but my favorite clothes: The dark blue Jeans from Levis Curve ID (I find it a really great idea that they have three different cuts according to the proportion between hip and waist). A gray long-sleeved t-shirt that I have for nearly three years and wash a lot, but still looks just like the day I bought it. And a leopard coat, that I bought in Spring at sales, and that actually will be great as a winter coat, but it’s not, because it can not be closed. The hat I bought in Berlin at a street market shop in Alexa, I would like to wear it more often but my hair looks horrible when I take it off :(.  The bag it’s a random one, I had things packed and they needed to fit inside. When I think about it, the only thing that it’s new are the Vans (lot more comfortable than the Converse btw).

So, this is what I usually wear. Now you know what you can expect.

Let us entertain you

imm002_0

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

Maybe you’ve already wondered why is Anna’s Closed in there, when down below you can just find recipes. So, we thought it’s time to introduce ourselves.

Helena, given that she cooks gladly and good, will take care of the culinary part. She will present here everything that she already knows how to cook, would be happy to cook or never dared to cook up to now.

Anna, given that she has nothing else but clothes in mind and her biggest concern is if stripes and polka-dots match, will show you here the solution to her everyday “I have nothing to wear!”

And since Helena also likes to handcraft and not to spend extra money for things she can do herself, she will now and then surprise you with some DIY. So, despite having seen our faces we hope that you will come over again.

Blanc i Negre

Blancinegre 013_2

Blanc i Negre it’s a traditional summer coffee drink in my home town. Living abroad has its perks, one being that it’s not easy to find everything you’ve grown up with by just going to the supermarket.

Blanc i Negre is “just” coffee slushy with Mantecao ice cream. Lot of people would say Mantecao is vanilla ice cream but actually it’s a milk/egg ice cream and it has nothing to do with vanilla ice cream. Since I can not buy it in any ice cream shop I decided I would learn how to do it so I can enjoy it also here in Germany, and why not, in winter too  😉

Ingredients for 5 portions

Mantecao

  • 5 egg yolks
  • 500ml milk
  • 150gr sugar
  • 1 lemon
  • a cinnamon stick and a tiny little bit of vanilla

Coffee slushy

  • 1L filtered coffee

  • sugar

Preparation

Heat the milk, a cinnamon stick and two slices of lemon skin in a saucepan. Let it warm up and remove from heat when it starts to boil, then let it cool down a little bit. Now you can put that little bit vanilla inside  😉

While the milk cools down, beat the egg yolks with sugar until the mixture doubles its size and turns kinda white.

Mix both slowly, milk should not be very warm when mixing, we don’t want the eggs to set.

Cook the mixture over low heat, stirring constantly and scraping the bottom until the custard thickens enough to coat the spatula. Remove from heat, let it cool.

Now it’s ready for the Ice Cream machine!

I don’t have a very god one, but still makes a very good texture! It’s every euro worth!

The coffee is very easy to prepare. Just mix the coffee with the sugar (I don’t like it very sweet so I just suggest to put as much as you like) and then put it also in the ice cream machine and let it do its magic, you will have a slushy coffee in around 15min 😀
Not very proud of the photos…but what can I say…I’m still learning!
